Top Ecommerce Sites by Visitors
Given that the number of people shopping online increases year after year, the rise of ecommerce cannot be denied.
But just where do consumers go when shopping online? What are the top online shopping websites?
In terms of top ecommerce sites by visitors, eBay sits comfortably in first place. According to the latest figures, the number of unique visitors to the world’s biggest online shop exceeds 819 million per month.
Ebay has a dominant lead over the rest of the pack. Its number of monthly website visits is over 1.3 times that of the second-biggest online shop and one of its closest competitors, Walmart, which is known for its massive hypermarkets. In an average month, 617.19 million unique users worldwide visit Walmart’s online store.
Together, these two top online shopping websites register a total of 1.44 billion unique visits per month. This makes up 29.5 percent of the total number of average monthly visits to the top ten ecommerce sites and around half of the remaining eight on the list combined.
Third on the list of top ecommerce sites by visitors is Alibaba, often referred to as the “Amazon of China.” The Hangzhou-headquartered Chinese firm attracts 601.45 million unique visits per month. It is also the highest-ranked non-US ecommerce site on this list.
The fourth-largest online retailer is Rakuten, a Japanese ecommerce and online retailing company based in Tokyo. 533.56 million unique users visit its site every month.
This is followed by Amazon, which sees 524.47 million visitors per month. Amazon is also one of the largest retailers in the US and is the top ecommerce company in terms of market value.
Sixth on the list is AliExpress, which is owned by the Alibaba Group. The average monthly traffic to its site comes in at 510.93 million unique visitors.
Etsy, a marketplace for crafts and creative goods is in seventh place on the list of the top ecommerce sites by visitors. It draws 450.35 million unique visitors to its page every month.
Argentina’s Mercado Livre comes next with 331 million monthly unique visits. It is the only South American company to make the top ten.
Rounding out the ten biggest online shops are Target.com with 282.48 million monthly visitors and JD.com with 204.91 million.
