Chart of Search Engine Market Share in 2022

Search Engine Market Share in 2022

Handling over 90 percent of all search queries worldwide, Google is undoubtedly dominating the global search engine market share.

As of February 2022, a whopping 92.01 percent of all search queries conducted across all search engine providers are done through the internet giant. In other words, more than nine out of ten internet users who search for information online do so through Google.

By comparison, its closest rival, Microsoft’s Bing, is only managing a fraction of Google’s volume. Bing currently has a market share of 2.96 percent.

Yahoo is the third most popular search engine and has a market share of 1.51 percent. This is followed by China’s leading search engine, Baidu, with 1.17 percent.

Russia’s Yandex is in fifth place with 1.06 percent of the total market share. DuckDuckGo wraps up the top six. It has a market share of 0.68 percent.

Even though Bing, Baidu, Yahoo, Yandex, and DuckDuckGo rank among the world’s top search engines, their market shares total 7.38 percent, less than one-tenth of Google’s.

With such figures, there is no question that the current search engine market share worldwide is dominated by Google. And Google is also, in fact, seeing quite a similar lead in the United States.

US Search Engine Market Share

Chart of US Search Engine Market Share in 2022

Google reigns supreme in the US with a similar dominance in the US search engine market share. The only difference comes in a slight fall in market share for Google: it makes up 87.61 percent of the US market share, compared to 92.01 percent worldwide.

Next on the list of the top search engines in the US is Bing, with a market share of 6.31 percent. This is followed by Yahoo with 3.23 percent, around half of Bing’s market share.

While the top three search engines in the US parallel that of the most popular search engines used worldwide, that’s where the similarity ends.

After Google, Bing, and Yahoo, the fourth-most used search engine in the US is DuckDuckGo. It has a market share of 2.51 percent.

Ecosia and Russia’s Yandex wrap up the six biggest search engines in the US with market shares of around 0.1 percent.

Google’s dominance in the US search engine market is even more impressive when it comes to search queries carried out on mobile phones, with 93.89 percent of all mobile search queries handled by Google, as opposed to 79.59 percent on desktops and 80.05 percent on tablets.
