Chart of Most Visited Websites Worldwide (2022)

Most Visited Websites in 2022

With the number of internet users increasing year after year, understanding consumers’ behavior online and, in particular, the top websites they visit is more relevant now than ever for ecommerce businesses.

Social media platforms and search engines currently dominate the list of top websites in the world.

Coming in at the top is internet giant Google. This should come as no surprise, considering its dominance in the global search engine market share. In fact, as many as 3.5 billion queries are carried out on Google every single day.

Google is followed by social media platforms. For instance, YouTube, which is also owned by Google, ranks second. This is then followed by social media giant Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook.

In sixth place is Baidu, China’s own answer to Google, and online encyclopedia Wikipedia ranks seventh among the top websites. This is followed by two more search engines: Russia’s Yandex.ru and US-based Yahoo.com.

Last on the list of the ten most popular websites in the world is another Facebook-owned entity: WhatsApp. Though it started out as a messaging app, it’s been categorized by many as a social media thanks to its huge variety of social features. It is also the only messenger website within the top ten.

Of the ten most popular websites in the world, just one website (Wikipedia) is neither a search engine nor a social media site.

Most Visited Websites in the US

Chart of Most Visited Websites in the US (2022)

While the ranking of the ten most visited websites in the United States looks mostly the same, there are notable differences.

Just like the global list, social media platforms feature extensively in the US top websites list.

The top three websites in the US remain the same—Google, YouTube, and Facebook. But that’s where the similarities end.

Amazon ranks in fourth place and is the most visited ecommerce website in the US. It is also the only ecommerce website to feature on the list of top websites in the US. This is followed by search engine Yahoo.com in fifth place.

Of the remaining five on the list, four are social media platforms. Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and Discord rank in sixth, eighth, ninth, and tenth places respectively. Wedged in seventh place among the social networks is Wikipedia.
